It has been scientifically proven that the line of work or profession highly influences the possibility of suffering from depression. As the studies say depression most often affects people who have to work with other people on their job. On the other hand architects, engineers, and scientists are nearly immune to depression. Also women are more affected by depression then men due to the differences in the ways to fight with stress. As the statistical data shows us people aged 30-40 years suffer from depressions more frequently then other age categories. But of course all this data is relative meaning that everyone has certain periods of life when he can acquire depression.

If not treated depression may become severe, suicidal thoughts may appear, obsessive compulsive disorders may appear. Also depression may affect the central nerve system and cardio-vascular system which increases the possibility of heart attacks or strokes. Even the post depressive syndrome is very dangerous because it may lead to new stages of depression of deferent genesis.

Obsessive compulsive disorder - is a psychopathologic condition that is characterized by obsessive thoughts and actions (compulsions). As an example for such disorders we can take different situations in which a person has to repeat a certain type of behavior to stop certain feelings like: fear, uneasiness and etc. As a simple example: a person wakes up in the middle of the night and checks if all the doors in his house are closed and after the procedure, before he goes to sleep, a feeling that one door was left open by mistake will perturb him. Other example is when a person suffers from fear of germs and bacteria that makes him take 3-4 showers in a row, every time applying a certain antiseptic agent.

All this situations happen to people who suffer from different forms of obsessive compulsive disorders in their lives repeating of certain actions or thoughts is predominant. Obsessions - are constantly appearing unwanted thoughts, images or impulses that cause anxiety. Compulsions on the other hand are unconquerable desire to perform actions or rituals that lower the level of anxiety. People suffering from depression can sometimes develop their illness into an obsessive compulsive disorder. Such conditions should be reported to your health care provider and treated corespondively.

OCD can lead to a number of possible consequences. If treatment the treatment is not started early, it can result in:

  • inability to work or interact with people
  • severe depression
  • bipolar disorders
  • phobias (such as agoraphobia)
  • eating disorders

If you are affected by OCD and it is not treated for a long period of time then panic attacks may appear or you even may be unable to maintain your household responsibilities.

Panic attacks - is an episode in life with expressed discomfort and fear, during which a minimum 4 of the following symptoms are manifested:

  • Excess heartbeat
  • Sweating
  • Trembling
  • The feeling of sultriness and inability to breath normally
  • The feeling of suffocation
  • Chest pain
  • Vomiting or other gastro-intestinal symptoms
  • Vertigo
  • Unpleasant feelings in the body
  • Chills or rush of blood to the face
  • Feeling that isolation from yourself or the feeling that the occurring situations are unreal
  • Fear of losing control or fear of going crazy
  • Fear of death

Panic attacks consequences may vary largely. They always depend on the type of panic attack you are having. For example if you are afraid of driving long distances, or if you are afraid to fly or use the subway as a transport. This means that your daily life may change due to inability to visit certain places, meet certain people.

We should all understand that depression, OCD and panic attacks are illnesses and not just strange behavior. As illnesses these should be treated and examined seriously. And one of the great ways to treat these disorders is Sertraline or Zoloft.
